i am utterly defeated today.
not only did i get up to find that Veronica had pre-empted my computer (her's is not hooked up to the interwebs) but then she decides to make two packages of ramen (the pounding is what woke me) and the dumps it all down the sink because she forgot that she doesn't like it anymore.
i had set aside some money to take her school clothes shopping and it took forever to get her off the Nintendo because she was Link and link was running about killing things and exploring randomly because we have no clue what the map & objectives to the game are.
by the time we got out to shop she is calling off names of shops where $300 means you get a couple outfits and maybe a pair of shoes. i throw down Ross and that's where we went.
i found nothing for me. nothing at all. mostly because we were engaged in the traditional battle that goes with a pre-teen and her mom clothes shopping. she pulls out something and i tell her it's ugly. i pull out something and she tells me it's ugly. she tells me something is cute and i point out that no, it is only in style and she refused to wear the exact same thing last year. she picks out some prostitute's clothing that must have accidentally been slipped into the rest of the clothes and i refuse to allow it in the cart.
you know - the same things all girls do with their mom's in august.
we hired a team of 10 sled dogs to pull the overladen basket to the dressing room and my mom calls to remind me that i have to be at my sister's open house party tonigt at 6. the kid graduated with her BA in BS two years ago, got married last year and bought a big house this year. woo. it was already 5. Veronica goes in with her 8 items and we spend the next hour and a half trading out clothes in a painfully slow process that made me want to cry. finally, we have ruled out the things that are too tight, too low cut, too ugly and just too . . . something.
i'm making a break with the now lighter basket towards the registers when she squeals the alarm that makes me blood run cold. i pull the break and reign in the dogs as she vanishes into the towering canyons of the shoe section. that leads us to the forrest of bags. all travel here is punctuated with "OMG! OMG! PLEEEEEEESE!?" and "OMG! NO."
finally we are free of the wallet, sunglasses & cheap jewelry plains and the cash register is in sight.
i frantically start taking everything off hangers and sent back a few items she or i reject at the last minute and i learn that the total is $183.84. as soon as she hears that i get a huge "I LOVE YOU!" and a hug while i pull out my card and try to slash my wrists with it.
suddenly, the woman behind us gasps and says, "It's gonna RAIN!"
sure enough, i turn to see that we went from sunny and bright to dark like night in a matter of minutes. the first few drops fell. suddenly, the whole sky fell. i could not see my car across the parking lot anymore.
we got hung up with a hidden alarm sensor search and never found it but walked out anyways and stood there looking at the mostly solid water from us to the car that we still couldn't see. i told her to wait there and i took off my leather flip-flops and went sloshing out to locate the car. i was soaked when i pulled up in front of the building to pick her up. she changed in the car and we went straight to The Brat's house.
she had a huge keg and a margarita machine. too bad i don't really like beer or margaritas.
see, i'm a rum & vodka kinda girl. i do love some whiskey and liqueurs are great. i just don’t do a lot of tequila anymore after that night i drank a whole bottle of Azteca (super cheap crap) and learned what pickles and spicy mustard feel like in my sinuses. no headache but the queasiest sweatiest feeling i have had since the other night i drank a whole bottle of vodka (straight) on an empty stomach.
anyways, i drank water and ate food and saw all the people i like that my sister knows and a few i don't. i helped mom clean up some and we got home around midnight.
the net total was three pair of jeans, a long black skirt, olive khaki cargo capris, one bra and eleven tops (two were sweaters and three were tanks).
i am going to have to go to the mall proper tomorrow. i'm hoping the rain will come back and strike me dead before i have to do that.
can anyone tell me where to get little boyshorts that are inexpensive? she will only wear boyshorts now. at Ross they were $2.99 a pop and that's crazy talk!
