i dreamt i saw you walking
up a hillside in the snow
casting shadows on the winter sky
as you stood there counting crows
one for sorrow, two for joy,
three for girls, and four for boys,
five for silver, six for gold, and
seven for a secret never to be told

there's a bird that nests inside you
sleeping underneath your skin
when you open up your wings to speak
i wish you'd let me in

from "a murder of one" ~ counting crows
"What's the use in floating if it does is tell you someone's under you?"

The Morning Edge was asking what song would you want played at your funeral, and i was thinking . . . i would want "If i Had Only Known" by Reba. And maybe "Pictures of You" ~ Cure and "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" ~ Willie Nelson. Other than that, i just don't know. Mayhap i would throw in "Out The Window" by the Violent Femmes, just for the appalled looks and nervous laughs . . . i am so morbid and i LOVE it!

Then they had an interview with Boy George and i pulled out my best of and now i am just feeling kind bubbly-mellow . . . i think next i'll go with some PM Dawn followed by Faithless to further follow his career. He has been spinning and mixing over in the UK for the past ten years under other names and most of his stuff has not even reached the US, but he is releasing a mix CD in a few weeks and Culture Club put out a new album in the UK last year but it wasn't picked up or released here since it was not mainstream enough. Now, hold on here . . . Culture Club was NEVER 'mainstream' they were weird and shocking. He was practically in drag! Now that the 80s retro is so in style they want them to pull the cookie cutter out NOW? They didn't expect them to still do something different? This is total crap that some assholes in suits can just decide not to release an album here since they don't 'get it'! "Feeling like a child on a dark night . . . wishing there was some kind of Heaven" Sure Mr. Big Moron, whatever.

Wow. Listening to this stuff reminds me of the bright spots in my growing up . . . i used to go out to California for the summer and live in my aunt's pool with my three cousins and it was heaven! We had a huge tent in the orchard by the pool and i think it was a fight to get those swim suits off of us long enough to wash them but Gramma Jane and Aunt Pam made us have a nice dinner once a week so we didn't forget about clothes! i am one of the palest people i know and i would come back all light brown and so so so blonde with great stories of Aunt Pam's horrid food like escargot and pate and how Gramma was always so late and Viv's latest boyfriend . . . the movies we watched and the music Viv introduced me to . . . and the hours and hours spent in the pool. i so longed to turn into a waterbaby or a mermaid so that i would never have to leave the water! i think i was happiest in those summers than i have ever been in all my life. Nostalgia is sometimes so sweet and tart like the oranges we pulled off the trees for breakfast . . . sunshine in a small round ball!
